What does your business do?
You have this great idea for a business. You just know your product can make people’s lives better. You are excited to tell people about this amazing idea of yours.
Now imagine yourself in an elevator with your former boss and he asks you, “so what have you been up to these days?”
You are brimming with pride and you tell him, “I’m starting my own business, it’s going to be great.”
He says, “oh really, that’s awesome. What does your business do?”
You say, “It’s going to make people’s lives easier.”
“How will it do that?” he says.
In your mind you have all of these great things to say, but you just can’t articulate it at that moment.
Been there, done that! Man, does that make you feel like an imposter. But really, your business idea is a great one and it WILL make your customer’s lives easier. You just need to take a few minutes to get some clarity on the features and benefits of your product or service. I purchased this really great book that has helped me put together workshops for some of my creative entrepreneur clients. Its called Gamestorming. From that book, I have created a worksheet with six questions that can get you started down the path to describing your business in a clear and concise way.
